Topsy-Turvy World

I’m living Upside Down in a topsy-turvy world

Where bad men are rewarded

And sometimes it feels like everything I stand for

Was a lie.

As morality and kindness are flushed away like refuse

Round bar and coffee tables, or over social media

And people either hate or worship those with lots of riches

Without seeing money as a tool

I’m living Upside Down in a topsy-turvy world

Where bad men are rewarded

And sometimes it feels like everything I stand for

Was a lie.

And I don’t think they see the beauty

In everyday interactions

In fleeting dark reflections

In the steam rising from a coffee cup

Or a boiling pot of pasta

In moving without controlling

Or long-awaited violet tea

I’m living Upside Down in a topsy-turvy world

Where bad men are rewarded

And sometimes it feels like everything I stand for

Was a lie.

Gathering brand names and information

They ransom of this nation As they betray our children

And then betray their friends

I’m living Upside Down in a topsy-turvy world

Where bad men are rewarded

And sometimes it feels like everything I stand for

Was a lie.

And no I cannot build your playroom

No I cannot love your plumber

No I do not want a social worker

Or a teacher as a lover

No I cannot be your perfect Princess

No I cannot be your Mother

No you haven’t ever got me right

I’m a luxury loving horror

It’s just that many of my luxuries

Are different from your luxuries

And freedom is the best of these

And money buys you freedom I’m living Upside Down in a topsy-turvy world

Where bad men are rewarded

And sometimes it feels like everything I stand for

Was a lie.

Money buys you pretty things

I do not need a lot of them

But what I need are expensive things

But I’m not going to beg for them

The people I like have kindness

The people I like have manners

The people I like think of others

The people I like want the best for them

The people I like don’t define what

Best means for another.

I’m living Upside Down in a topsy-turvy world

Where bad men are rewarded

And sometimes it feels like everything I stand for

Was a lie.

Heartsong (unfinished)

I had a chat with my heart today, and this is what it said: Heartache, heartache, please don't let my heart break.
